TOWANDA, Kan. — Betty Jean Mullennax’s life began June 24, 1928 in Hobart. She is the daughter of Herbert and Byrl Gwin Eckstrom.
Betty is a graduate of Fairfax High School. She was united in marriage to Dervin “Wayne” Mullennax on Jan. 2, 1948, in Pawnee. She was employed by Beechcraft Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. She loved gardening, growing her flowers and tending to her yard. She always made time to visit with friends and even strangers as was her kind hearted nature.
Her loving family includes her children, Kathy (Mac) McDonald, of Tulsa and Michael (Shelley) Mullennax, of El Dorado, Kan.; grandchildren, Dawn Crain, Christopher Mullennax, Sean McKibban, Amie McKibban, April McKibban and Jeremy McKibban; great-grandchildren, Sydney Crain, Joshua Crain, Kyler McKibban and Jackson McKibban.
She passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was 89.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne and infant son, Dervin Mullennax Jr.
Her family will gather with friends at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Carlson Colonial Chapel, El Dorado, for her funeral service led by her nephew the Rev. Bill Springer. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery, El Dorado. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Disabled American Veterans.
