Bernadine devoted her career to improving the quality of care for patients, medical compliance for physicians and accreditation standards for Hillcrest Hospital Cushing (formerly Cushing Regional Hospital), retiring in 2009 after 23 years of employment and several awards for distinguished service. Prior to this, she instructed aspiring nursing students at Meridian Technology Center, Stillwater. She was an experienced nurse, teacher and caretaker. She took pride in being part of the fraternity of nurses and was dedicated to her profession.
For many years, as a baptized believer in Christ, she taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Stillwater. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, reading and beating her opponent in games.
She is best remembered for her fierce love of family, inspiring members to be their best. This was modeled by her pursuit of higher education and hard work in the medical field. She was known to give impromptu dance lessons, beauty and dating advice and instruction on driving stick-shift cars. She was the life of any party and loved to laugh with family and friends. Bernadine worked hard to make a difference in her own life and made a point to mentor those around her. She was most proud of the success of her children and grandchildren.
