Camp McFadden is hosting a new event named Adventure Day. At Camp McFadden we believe that camp adventures should be for everyone. From this belief, Adventure Day has been created as a one-day event for disabled/ special needs participants to allow these individuals some of the same adventures that our summer camp youth enjoy at Camp McFadden.
The event will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Camp McFadden.
Adventure Day will host many activities for participants. Some of these include: fishing, canoeing, archery, bb guns, nature walk, arts & crafts, roasting hotdogs and s’mores for supper, campfire sing-along completes the day. Participants may make a wood chip necklace (a tradition from summer camp) and are presented with an Adventure Day t-shirt.
This will be the 2nd Adventure Day held. The first pilot Adventure Day was held in September 2016. Camp hosted 12 participants and their families. It was a fabulous day as the group participated in fishing, canoeing, archery, bb guns, nature walk, bounce house, face painting, kite making, and a nature scavenger hunt.
Historically, Camp McFadden was established in 1927 by Entrepreneur William McFadden as a Camp Fire Girls Camp. It now is a multi-use recreational area with a Summer Camp Program for boys and girls, an Outdoor Education program for school groups and available for rent to the general public. The Camp is located on 250 acres of woods, hills and ponds overlooking the west shore of Kaw Dam Reservoir and provides a variety of facilities for church, youth, scout groups, family reunions, weddings and corporate events.
Adventure Day is a free event but sign-ups are required. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. At this time, Adventure Day is limited to ambulatory participants as camp is not equipped with wheel-chair accessible program areas.
To sign up for Adventure Day or to make donations for the event, please call Natalie Hollingsworth, Camp Director at 580-762-9955 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
