TONKAWA — Everything seemed to fall in place Monday for the Northern Oklahoma Lady Mavs as they eclipsed the century mark in defeating Eastern Oklahoma Lady Mountaineers 102-56.

It was obvious early on that this Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Foster-Piper Fieldhouse was going to be a runaway. The Lady Mavs dominated the action in just about every phase of the game. Their one-two scoring punch for this game were especially effective in the first half. Liberty Payne was red hot shooting from long range. She buried six baskets from beyond the three-point arc and added two two-point baskets for 22 first-half points. Inside, Lillian Prince muscled her way to score 16 points in the first 20 minutes of action. Six of her baskets were two-pointers from close-in and she hit four free throws. As a team, Northern scored 56 points in the opening half.

Payne finished the game with 29 points, including one more trey. Prince had 24 points when she left the game midway through the second half.

No other Lady Mav finished in double figures, but 12 players wound up in the scoring column before the game was over.

On the defensive end, the Lady Mavs also dominated, limiting Eastern to 19 points in the first half. In the second half, Eastern was able to score 37 points, doing some long-range shooting of its own.

The only question remaining in the closing minutes was whether or not the Lady Mavs would reach 100 points. That question was answered with well over a minute remaining in the game on a three-point basket by Ashante Rollins.

"We needed a game like this," coach Greg Krause said. "We had lost a couple of tough games (Thursday to Northern Oklahoma A&M and Saturday to Connors State) and we could have come to this game with our heads down. But the girls played hard from the beginning, shot well and defended well. We hope to be able to build on this the rest of the year."

It was the second time this season that the Lady Mavs defeated Eastern. They won a game in Wilburton Dec. 3 81-54 over the Lady Mountaineers.

The win puts Northern's season record at 11-12 and the conference mark at 7-5. Thursday, they will be at home against Western Oklahoma State, another team they defeated earlier in the season.
