STILLWATER The naming of Cowboy James Anderson to the Sporting News All-American first team has a Ponca City connection.
According to information on the official OSU athletic Web site, Anderson is the first Cowboy basketball player to be named to the Sporting News All-American first team since Ponca City's Gale McArthur in 1951.
The Sporting News honor was just one of several honors being bestowed Anderson this season. He was a unanimous selection for Big 12 Player of the Year and was named first team All-American by Yahoo!Sports, a national on-line publication.
Joining Anderson on the Sporting News first team were Scottie Reynolds of Villanova, Evan Turner of Ohio State, John Wall of Kentucky and Greivis Vasquez of Maryland.
McArthur was a member of coach Henry Iba's 1951 Oklahoma A&M team and later became an orthodontist in Ponca City.
