Fifth Week Of Session Was Hectic
The fifth week of session was busy and hectic, and I'm sure this week will be the same. This will be the last week for consideration of Senate bills on the floor. We have 154 bills and joint resolutions left along with 162 Appropriations shell bills. This means, excluding the shell bills, which take hardly any time to get through, we'll have to hear at least 38 bills a day. That may not sound like a lot until you think about the fact that debate on a bill can last anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. Hopefully, none of the bills will be controversial and we can get through them quickly.
Next week, we will return to our committees to begin working on House bills that they have passed. This will take three weeks followed by another three weeks on the floor hearing all the bills that pass out of committee.
Last week, I was pleased to have seven of my bills approved in the Senate: SB 1332, SB 1599, SB 1658, SB 1692, SB 2024, SB 2128 and SB 2224. All my bills are now awaiting further consideration in the House.
Congratulations to the Garber Boys for winning the Class A State Basketball Championship.
In closing, a reminder that this Friday, March 12, I'll be in Medford at 9 a.m. for a town hall meeting. Next Friday, March 19, I'll be visiting Tonkawa at 7 a.m. To contact me at the Capitol, please write to Senator David Myers, State Capitol, 2300 N.
