Betty June Huffman
Betty June Huffman, longtime Ponca City resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at her home in Ponca City. She was 75.
The daughter and only child of Howard Leroy Huffman and Nellie Ida Mathews Huffman, Betty was born May 19, 1934, in Uncas. She attended school in Uncas, Shawnee and Newkirk, and she was graduated from Ponca City High School with the class of 1953.
Following graduation, Betty was employed by Central Typewriter Company as a clerk. Her next employment was for a short time at Woolsworth and then at Continental Oil Company where she worked for 36 years. After retirement in 1995 she cared for her parents until their deaths.
Betty loved the outdoors and animals. She enjoyed watching birds and squirrels feeding near her windows. She had many hobbies which included drawing flowers and animals, making jewelry, crocheting and embroidery. She loved visiting with people and especially the daily phone calls from her Uncle Keith in Wisconsin.
Betty is survived by her cousins, Kitty and John Free of Newkirk; two uncles, Keith Mathews and Richard Mathews, both of Mauston, Wis.; and many other cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Tom Howard, chaplain for Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, officiating. Interment will be in Newkirk Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m.
Relatives serving as casket bearers will be John Free, Josh Free, Jacob Free, Nelson Huffman, J.R. Kirkendall, and Donnie Williamson.
