Kristi Brown, Ponca City Tourism coordinator, has returned from the St. Louis Women's Survival Show, where she was with a large delegation from Oklahoma Tourism. The booth was at the entrance to the event. There was a lot of interest and even curiosity regarding Oklahoma and Ponca City with the Missourians.
The weekend before the St. Louis show, Ponca City Tourism had a booth at the Wichita Woman's Fair. It was a great show, and there was really a lot of interest in Ponca City. Seems like everyone in Kansas had already been to or knew of the Marland Mansion, it was mentioned a lot by the attendees. Kaw Lake also was most interesting to them, and the new 2010 Kaw Lake Guides were distributed.
Also information was provided on Ponca City's upcoming events with the new rack card which is titled "Leave the Boys At Home".
Ponca City was also represented through our partnerships at two area boat shows. Green Country distributed the visitors guide at the Tulsa Boat Show, and Kaw Lake Association did the same at the Wichita Boat Show. Green Country has also gotten Ponca City Tourism into the information kiosk at Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa.
Rich Cantillon, Chamber Executive and Brown attended the OTIA Legislative Reception in Oklahoma City. Brown said "It was an amazing event. It was great to be able to meet with all of the state legislators and thank them for supporting tourism in the state of Oklahoma. Plus the food was provided by some of the best restaurants in Oklahoma, sort of a mini trade show for them as well. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot."
The Ponca City Herb Festival has developed a new rack card which has been distributed at recent trade shows. The Herb Festival are also going to participate in the state fulfillment program, which means that the State Tourism Department will promote them on the new website and mail the Herb Festival rack card to interested parties. It's a win/win situation. I'm glad the Herb Festival is utilizing this marketing tool. All other events or attractions that are not using it are urged to call to find out how they can also benefit from this program.
There are two large tour groups coming to Ponca City in March, as well as a couple of day trips planned. Ponca City is hosting the "Ruffneck Rally" for the Vintage Car Rally Association on April 23-25.
