Library Grant To Support Education for Tonkawa Tribe |
|
FORT OAKLAND Thanks to a new grant announced by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, patrons visiting the library area in the Tonkawa Tribe's Fort Oakland Junior/Senior building will benefit from a more pleasant and enhanced experience.
The $7,000 grant award will provide not only new books and magazine subscriptions with a focus on Native American content, but also bean bag chairs and floor pillows for the book nook. The grant also permits elders to receive a small honorarium to share historical and culturally enriching stories to local youth.
A summer reading program, supplies for the computer learning lab and ongoing library related training will also be provided by the grant.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.
