Kay County 4-H Raises Funds

NEWKIRK — Thanks to generous citizens, Kay County 4-H members collected $3,328.78 for the 2008 Kids Helping Kids campaign.

According to Jim Rutledge, at the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation Office, the statewide campaign raised $26,450 for Ronald McDonald House and Oklahoma 4-H.

The campaign is a service project for 4-H youth that supports the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma 4-H Youth Development Program.

Members collected donations in exchange for coupons redeemable at participating McDonald's restaurants.

Statewide, over 1,500 4-H members participated in the fund raising campaign.

This year's top fund raiser, Jesse Alley from Kay County raised $2,662 and was a repeat first place winner. Jesse received a $1,000 savings bond, provided by the Cooperative of McDonalds Owners. Other top fund raisers included Jacob Daley of Rogers County, and Aaron Reeves and Kaytlin Mathis both of Okmulgee County. All three of these individuals raised over $1,000 for the cause. The top four Counties in the state were Okmulgee, Rogers, Kay and Garfield.

The top three clubs receive gift certificates to the National 4-H Supply catalog, and the club winners this year were Circle G 4-H Club in Rogers County, Kay County Mounties 4-H Club in Kay County and the Morris Jr. 4-H Club in Okmulgee County.The top-collecting 4-H member in Kay County was Jesse Alley with $2,662. Alley will receive a $75 savings bond to reward his dedication.Funds raised through the 4-H Kids Helping Kids Campaign will be used for the daily operation of the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House, which provides a warm, caring home-like atmosphere for families who travel to Oklahoma City in need of medical treatment. Most of the money raised for the Oklahoma 4-H Program stay in the counties where they are raised to help support local club programs.

The campaign, in its 21st year has raised over $730,840 for the benefit of 4-H and Ronald McDonald House, according to Rutledge. For more information about the campaign, contact the Kay County Extension Office at 580-362-3194.
