Mother's Day Dance Set At Ponca Tribal Center

WHITE EAGLE — A Mother's Day dance will be held May 11 at the Ponca Tribal Center. This will be the third of four dances, and will honor three sisters: Naomi Warrior Shelly, Ruth Warrior Simpson and Mary F. Warrior Atkins. Also remembered will be two deceased sisters: Hilda Warrior Davis and Eleanor White Star Downing. They are the daughters of the late Amos and Irene LeClair Warrior, and the late Starling White Star and Eva Primeaux.

The dance will begin at 2 p.m. with a name giving ceremony for Kimberly Grace Atkins. Following that the Gourd Dance will begin.

The host clan will be the Ponca Gourd Dance Society led by Douglas Eagle. Oliver Little Cook will serve as the emcee.

Steven Little Cook will lead the program as head singer, Joe Brown will serve as head man dancer, and Candice Three Stars will be head lady dancer. Waterboys will be Daniel and Derek Franklin.

The evening meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. served by Rocky Enloe and family. At 6:30 p.m. social dancing will follow, and the War dance will begin at 7 p.m.

The dance is sponsored by the honorees' children. Everyone is invited to come and spend the day with all the mothers present.
