Two Guilty Pleas Offered

OKLAHOMA CITY — Two former U.S. Postal Service Postmasters from Kay County have entered pleas of guilty in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma Federal Judge Stephen P. Friot.

Former Ponca City postmaster Steven R. McCormack, 55, entered a plea of guilty to a felony charge of misprision of a felony.

Federal court papers show that McCormack stated he had been advised by Divina M. Love, 41, then Tonkawa postmaster, that she had embezzled funds.

McCormack states that between July 2009 and Sept, 23, 2009, he purchased and gave stamps to Love to help pay back her shortage due to her embezzlement. McCormack states that he did not notify any authority that she had committed the embezzlement.

Love entered a plea of guilty as part of a plea agreement to a charge of misappropriation of postal funds.

Court papers show that Love stated she entered into the agreement because she wanted to do the right thing and "put all of this behind me and go forward with life."

Love stated that during the time of 2006-2009, she diverted the proceeds from the sale of postal stamps to her own personal use. She admits that the value of these funds was more than $1,000.

Both McCormack and Love could face the maximum penalty of three years imprisonment or $250,000 fine or both; $100 special assessment restitution-subject to supervised release for a term of one year.

Both agreed that the amount of restitution involved is $9,366.51.

Sentencing will be set upon receipt of PSR.
