Noon Lions Honored by District Governor for 87 Years Service |

This week's program of the Ponca City Noon Lions was presented by Lion district governor Eldon Hugaboom. Hugaboom thanked the Noon Lions for their 87 years of service as the largest and one of the most active Lions Clubs in the district.
He mentioned that this club had 24 Melvin E. Jones Fellows, six Life Members, and had provided a past district governor, a past international director and currently has a zone chairman (Lion Terry Woodruff) and a district chairman for the committee on Sight Conservation and Work for the Blind (Lion Walt Finch).
The governor also talked about the national Lions emphasis this year on Move to Grow. He explained the MERL program (membership, expansion, retention, and leadership). He also clarified the workings of the Lions Club International Foundation and the giving levels for participation, and asked the Noon Lions to join the Lions Clubs in over 200 countries in support of its humanitarian projects.
Presiding at the meeting was Lion president Bill Thomason, and the speaker was introduced by Lion Lyn Boyer. Greeters were Lions Cathy Sang and Larry Stover. Lion Cheryl Cavett was in charge of attendance and meal payments. The invocation was given by Brice Chism. The singing was led by Lion Ted Matson and was accompanied by Honorary Lion Kay Anthony, who also provided pre-meeting entertainment..
Student Leos of the Week were Jennifer Roubedeaux and William Doolittle of the Po-Hi Leo Club. They told the Lions about their activities and their future plans.
A highlight of the meeting was an induction ceremony for new Lion members Greg Husen and J.D. Raulin. The ceremony was conducted by Lion president Thomason with help from Lion Governor Hugaboom. The new Lions were accompanied by their sponsors, Matson and Cavett.
Lion Jim Kelly announced that we still had three weeks to sell more Lions Wheels tickets to benefit the Lions Boys Ranch and the Lions Eye Bank. Thomason thanked the club for their help to the Festival of Angels last weekend in setting up displays and asked for volunteers to man the five nights the Lions and Leos will act as hosts at the exit to the Lake Ponca displays.
Lion Bill Stuever announced that the new drop box for used eyeglasses will be ready for installation within the next 7-10 days. The additional location will be at the parking lot for the University Learning Center on North Fourteenth.
Sign up sheets will be available at the next meeting for the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 19. With the help of the Leos, the club will try to add two more locations to their collection sites in addition to the two doors at Walmart.
Lion Bohannon announce that the Lion auction was a rousing success with 32 sponsors and 63 donors of goods and services. The auction tables were set up in record time and the auction finished on time with the outstanding leadership of auctioneer Lion Homer Nicholson. The auction is the major fundraiser for the support of the Noon Lions community service projects.
Lion Jim Kelly thanked the Lions for their contributions to the Ponca City Crime Stoppers as a result of the program they presented in October.
A special guest at the meeting was Lion Carobelle Carson who is the council advisor.
The speaker for next week's meeting will be John Raley on Gettysburg Re-enactment.
