PCAA Membership Show Award Winners Honor Schmidt Painting

The Ponca City Art Association Membership Show opened Sunday, Jan. 31, and will be continued though Sunday, Feb. 28, 1 to 4 p.m., 819 East Central.

Best of Show was won by Tom Schmidt's oil painting called "Road Home." Gene Dougherty, the 2010 judge, gave a critique of the ribbon winners and also to anyone else who requested feedback on their artwork. Dougherty said the quality of this year's show was the best it has been in several years.

In the Advanced and Student Three Dimensional category, Sharon Rorie took first place; Janet Paynter, second place; Kym Puga, third place; and honorable mention went to Sharon Rorie.

Professional Three Dimensional category winners were Carl Petersen, first place; Bud Sloan, second place; Ann Powell, third place; and Jim Watson, honorable mention.

Graphics winners, which included pastels and digital art entries this year, consisted of: First Place, Shirley Petersen; Second, Sid Armstrong; and Third to Ruth Loucks.

Advanced and Student Oil/Acrylics picks were: Mary Ann Avery, first place; Betty Goodwin, second; John McNeese, third; and honorable mentions, Jeanette Lewis and Malia McMillen.

Professional Oil/Acrylic division winners were June Teichmer, first place; Clyde Otipoby, second; Kathrine Spena, third; and honorable mention; Tom Schmidt.

Photography entry winners were Sonja Cole, first place; Kym Puga, second; Zachery Pruett, third; honorable mention, Sonja Cole.

Watercolor category winners were Elaine Armstrong, first place; June Teichmer, second; and honorable mention, Elaine Armstrong.

With the snow and ice problems came assistance from Neal Lawrence who cleared the parking lot and Sprague Lawn Care who shovelled the sidewalks so the show could open Sunday as planned. Despite the weather difficulties, the show was well attended. Carla DeNoya hosted the reception. Patricia Cheek and Jeanette Lewis helped organize the registration of the artwork entries. Donna Secrest arranged the display of the two dimensional work. This year's co-chairmen were Shirley Petersen and Elaine Armstrong.
