Authorities Searching For Inmate

NEWKIRK — Authorities are once again searching for Spencer Joe Cuccaro, 29, Ponca City.

Cuccaro fled the Kay County Courthouse just after 1 p.m. Tuesday after being told by a judge his bond was being rescinded.

Undersheriff Steve Kelley said today that Cuccaro ran out the east side of the courthouse and was last sighted in the tree area near Leaming Construction.

"We searched for him for about 45-minutes to an hour," said Kelley.

Kelley said detention officers at the courthouse were unable to assist because they had several other inmates in the courtroom to watch.

Cuccaro was charged May 6 with a felony count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, second and subsequent charge.

On Jan. 16, Cuccaro pleaded guilty to felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and delivery of a forged promissory note stemming from a 2006 arrest.

He was sentenced to 10 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections; however, after serving 20 months in the Kay County jail with credit for time served the remaining balance will be suspended.

He was released on Jan. 19.

Cuccaro is no stranger to fleeing from officers.

On Sept. 23, 2005, Cuccaro eluded Ponca City police in the 800 block of North Osage after officers pulled a vehicle over that he was riding in.

He was apprehended a month later in a Blackwell hotel room.
