Local Arbor Day Events Listed

Arbor Day in Oklahoma is celebrated the last full week of March, March 23-29. Ponca City Homer Nicholson will issue a proclamation during the City Commission meeting March 24 declaring Arbor Week locally.

On Wednesday, March 26, the lobby of City Hall will be the site of Ponca City's Arbor Day information booth. Ponca City Energy and the Park and Recreation Department will have information regarding trees and planting of trees from 9 a.m. until noon.

Tree saplings will be available to the first 50 families to participate. Coloring books, balloons, stickers and popcorn will be provided for children.

The third place Oklahoma Arbor Day Poster winner, Anna Mayer, will be honored March 31, at 1 p.m. in a school assembly at Woodlands Elementary School. Christina Stallings, Oklahoma Forestry Service Education Coordinator, will present a program about Arbor Day.

Eastman National Bank will present Anna with a savings bond and a redbud tree will be planted at the school by the Park and Recreation Department.
