Chase Ends With Arrest

Ponca City police, Kay County deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers were involved in a high speed chase that lasted just under an hour and resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Macomb Alan Cline, Newkirk, was charged with eluding an officer, DUI, assault with a dangerous weapon and three counts of failure to stop at a roadblock.

The chase begin after Ponca City police received a report at 9:33 p.m. that a truck was bumping another vehicle at the intersection of Fifth Street and Highland Avenue.

Three officers responded and began pursuing the vehicle westbound on Central. At speeds reaching over 65 miles per hour the pursuit headed north on Ranch Drive where deputies took the chase over.

According to police, stop sticks were deployed at 9:48 p.m. and the suspect ran a roadblock on Ranch Drive. The suspect reportedly tried to hit a deputy's vehicle at that time. The pursuit continued northbound on Ranch Drive past Peckham Road and another road block was set up at 9:55 p.m.

The suspect ran the second roadblock and continued eastbound on Fork Road and a trooper became the lead vehicle in the pursuit.

A wrecker was called to the intersection of W Street and Fork Road for a deputy's car.

At 10:01 p.m. the pursuit headed southbound on Waverly from Earth Road and then east on Peckham from Waverly.

At 10:05 p.m. the pursuit headed southbound on Pleasantview and a deputy became the lead unit as the chase traveled eastbound on Dry Road from Highway 77.

The pursuit then went southbound on Pecan and a deputy reported that Cline threw something at his unit.

A third set of stop sticks were deployed at 10:11 p.m. and Cline ran through them.

The chase continued eastbound on Kildare Road before damage from the stop sticks brought Cline's vehicle to a stop near Prentice.

Undersheriff Steve Kelley said today that the stop sticks flattened both tires on the driver's side of the vehicle.

"He was riding on an axle and ended up in a ditch," Kelley said.

Kelley said no damage was reported to law enforcement units but a deputy did get stuck and a trooper drove through a low water crossing which flooded out his unit.

Cline will appear later today in Kay County District Court.
