NEWS BRIEFS
Sometimes the Associated Press information is not absolutely accurate, but those of us who read it don't find out until we talk to someone who was actually on the scene. Marsha and Pete Shields recently returned from a trip. While reading their Dec. 31 News they were surprised to see in a story about the foggy weather in New Orleans that no flights were delayed or canceled. Marsha said they sat in the New Orleans airport for two hours waiting for their "not delayed" flight, visiting with other travelers who were similarly stranded. She said it was interesting, learning about fellow travelers' life histories. And it was interesting to note when they returned home they had not been delayed at all.

More vandalism may have occurred during New Year's Eve and New Years Day than took place throughout the holiday season.
According to Police Chief Raymond Ham, officers dealt with the usual amount of domestics and incidents of driving under the influence during the holidays.
"Overall, it's been a fairly quiet holiday season," he said. "However, there seemed to be a few more cases of vandalism than last year."
Residents in the 800 block of East Grand Avenue and the 1100 block of South Fifth Street contacted the police department Wednesday to report Christmas decorations stolen. In addition, a resident in the 100 block of Parkview Lane confirmed Christmas decorations were vandalized.
Several of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's staff, including three physicians, recently completed a month of training to become certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS. Nine Ponca City firemen also completed the training.
