JUDY MERZ, assistant groundskeeper at Cann Memorial Botanical Garden, reaches for more tulip bulbs that she and Cann horticulturalist, Tammy Anderson, are planting in a corner bed. The Ponca City News received a gift of four dozen "Henry Hudson" tulip bulbs which it donated to the Cann gardens. Henry Hudson is a tulip named in honor of the 400th anniversary of explorer Henry Hudson's discovery of Manhattan Island and the river that bears his name. The beautiful orange Dutch native won't be commerically available for several years. However, guests of the Cann Gardens can enjoy its spectacular beauty in Ponca City next Spring. ONE OF THE newest tulip introductions from Holland, Tulipa vvendenskyi "Henry Hudson," will be on view in the Cann Memorial Garden next Spring. This beautiful orange tulip was bred by The Institute of Hroticultural Plant Breeding in Wageningen, the Netherlands. While not commercially available for several more years, a gift of four dozen "Henry Hudson" tulip bulbs have been made to the Cann Memorial Gardens.
