Ponca City Development Authority (PCDA) and Pioneer Technology Center are partnering again this year to host the Ponca City Business Plan Competition and Pitch-off. This competition is specifically designed for small businesses wanting to diversify, expand or present a concept to market for business incentives.

“The written business plans are written according to the SBA.gov model and the Pitch off is the owner’s best five minute elevator speech” said Kat Long, Small Business Coordinator for PCDA. “This is an opportunity for a business owner to get feedback not only on their business plans, but also to present a cohesive verbal pitch to a panel of judges which include local bankers, economic developers and business educators.”

Incentives for the winner of the 2nd Annual Pitch Off include $2,000 for the business, equipment incentive up to $1,000, a year membership for the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce, office space (or manufacturing space) for one year and marketing and public relations support for the product or service for a total value of $5,000 in small business incentives. This unique package of incentives is designed to anchor a new company, or the growth of an existing small business, to Ponca City. This competition allows the adventurous entrepreneur the opportunity to have community support for his/her business by building a necessary part of any business: the business plan.

For those interested in starting a small business or growing an existing business, but are not ready to participate in the Business Plan Competition, mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 2 at 10 a.m., for the Small Business Summit happening at Pioneer Technology Center with “Small Town Rules” author Becky McCray. McCray will speak about starting your business where you are: location, timing and “how to(s)” on the best marketing for small town businesses. Register for this free program by calling 580-718-4222.

Deadline for the business plans to be submitted is Monday, April 17th by 5:00 p.m. Plans can be dropped off at the PCDA office at 102 S. 5th, at the Pioneer Technology Business Services Building at 2101 N. Ash or sent electronically to klong@goponca.com. Those interested in putting together a business plan need to access the format at www.sba.gov and the criteria/judging information at www.goponca.com. Please contact Kat Long at 580-765-7070 if you have any questions about the Pitch off Competition. The Pitch Off verbal presentations and judging are scheduled for Tuesday, April 25th at City Hall. Winners will be announced on that day. For more information, check out www.goponca.com or Like us on Facebook at PoncaCityDevelopmentAuthority.
