City Man Shot No Motive Known

A 22-year-old Ponca City man says he has no idea why his roommate may have decided to shoot him twice while he was sleeping at his home early Sunday morning.

Police received a call from a neighbor at 4:24 a.m. reporting that a shooting had occurred in the 1000 block of North Birch Street.

According to Ponca City detective capt. Dwaine Vincent, officers arriving on the scene took the victim’s 42-year-old roommate to the police department for further questioning while investigators processed the scene.

The victim was shot twice, once in the upper chest and also in the abdomen.

“We obtained a search warrant for the residence,” stated Vincent. A semi-automatic pistol, believed to have been used in the shooting, was found at the scene.

The victim, who said he was asleep at the time of the shooting, told investigators that he had no idea why he had been shot.

Vincent said that the suspect, who refused to give a statement, was later arrested for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

No apparent motive for the shooting was established.

According to police, the victim was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where he was stabilized before being transported to Oklahoma City. He is listed in serious condition.

According to Vincent, the investigation into the shooting is proceeding.
