DEATHSLeonard West No DeathsObituariesLeonard WestLeonard West, former longtime Ponca City resident, passed on into the loving arms of God on Friday, May 12, 2000, after a short illness. He was 91. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Michael Kear officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. The son of William Isaac and Lucie Ann (Hawkins) West, he was born in Wanette, Okla., on May 21, 1908. He received his education in the rural area of Potawatomie County. He left school at an early age to help support his mother after the death of his father. On Aug. 17, 1940, he met and married his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Docie E. Sloan, in Durant. In 1942, during World War II, Leonard served as a civilian mechanic with the U.S. Engineers Construction Division in Panama, and in the 1950s, he was employed for a short time by the Department of the Navy in Indianhead, Md. He came to Ponca City in 1947 and began a long career as an auto mechanic, working for Harval Motor and the Automotive Exchange in Ponca City as well as Goodman and Goodman in Durant. After retiring as an auto mechanic, he worked as a laundry attendant for many different owners of the Circle Drive Laundry. In 1995, he moved to Oklahoma City to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Keith D. Fox Sr., until ill health forced him to move into a nursing home this past March. Leonard enjoyed attending car, air and gun shows with his sons-in-law, watching John Wayne movies, and reading Louis Lamour books. He also enjoyed relating stories to his friends and family, and playing with his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Docie of Oklahoma City; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. (Linda) Yant of Stillwater, and Mr. and Mrs. Keith D. (Sandy) Fox Sr. of Oklahoma City. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Anne Yant) Barnes of Lawton, Angela Fox, Annette Fox and Keith D. Fox Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Austin James Fox, Trey Alan Fox, Baylee Christine Fox and Logan Scott Fox. In addition to his parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. SPORTSLady Mavs Add Guard To Signees Lady Mavs Add Guard To SigneesTONKAWA Women's Head Coach Greg Krause added Buffalo All-Conference guard Crystal Robison to his arsenal of freshman players for the Northern Oklahoma College Lady Maverick basketball team recently. Crystal is a very good shooter from the perimeter, Krause said of the 5-9 player from Buffalo High School. Robison averaged 18.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and was a 58-percent shooter from the field last year. She will be able to shoot well for us off the transition. She is an intelligent player who will work hard on her game at Northern. Robison was named to the Buffalo All-Tournament Team two years and earned the MVP honors as well. She is a two-year All-Conference player and was selected for the K101 Classic Bowl. Raiders Power Past CowboysSTILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Texas Tech pitcher Kevin Tracey went the distance to power the Red Raiders to a 7-3 win over Oklahoma State in Big 12 action. The win allowed the Red Raiders (33-22, 18-12 Big 12) to finish fifth in the conference race and take the fifth seed at this weeks Big 12 tournament in Oklahoma City.
