NEWKIRK — A little over a year ago two duck hunters braved Winter Storm Goliath to pursue their passion.
Unfortunately Chase Morland and Craig Strickland never returned from that trip. Kaw Lake can be an unforgiving place especially in bad weather.
The people of Kay county and surrounding areas mobilized to help and give support to the families of the hunters. As hunting and music communities around the world followed the search for the hunters, hundreds of volunteers and first responders spent countless hours searching for the men.
Morland and Strickland will be remembered at a memorial dinner and game feast to be held at the Stagecoach Event Center on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
The Stagecoach Event Center is located at 400 West South Street in Newkirk. The suggested donation of $15 per plate accesses a menu consisting of smoked elk and pork, fried fish and quail, jambalaya, sides, and Dutch oven cobblers for desert.
Many of Chase and Craig’s family members plan on speaking at this event. The event is limited to 250 people, and tickets are available now. Tickets are available at RCB Bank at 14th Street and Prospect Avenue in Ponca City or at Eastman National Bank in Newkirk.
All donations from the event will go to the Craig Strickland Foundation, for more information about the foundation go to craigstricklandfoundation.org. The foundation has pledged to give back in the form of scholarships to in Kay county students.
