Janet Martin, the mistress of ceremonies for the Ponca City Area Chamber of Commerce, will be in her element when she introduces the players, and moves the program along in a timely manner Thursday evening.
A native of Ponca City, upon graduating from Ponca City High School, she attended Northern Oklahoma College and Central State University. She then went to work for the City of Ponca City, at the Park and Recreation, Street and Engineering Departments, as well as for the City Attorney, Marland Johnson, and City Manager, Leon Nelson.
In 1979 she married Gary Martin and left the City of Ponca City to join Conoco Inc. She worked in the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Mass Spectrometry Group of the Research and Development Department for three years. Martin was then promoted to the Medical Division, where she worked in three different positions and retired as the Global Medical Administrator, after 25 years of service to Conoco. Soon after, she went to work for Eastman National Bank, where Janet is currently the Vice-President of Business Development.
She enjoys volunteering for a good cause. Martin has served in leadership positions for several key community organizations throughout her career, boards and projects, including presently President of the Child Development Center, The Community Health Foundation of Ponca City for 12 years serving as Vice Chair and Chair, Chamber Board for six years including Board Chair, Served as Chair for United Way, Served on the Ponca City Humane Society Board for several years and is now an advisor for the organization.
She served on the Board of Trustees for the Ponca City Medical Center before and after the sale of the hospital to CHF and on the selection committee, Friends of Education for a four year term, Auction Chair for the Cherokee Strip Golf Classic for four years.
Chairman of the Marland Estate Foundation Christmas Gala three years, as well as being a member of the Governor’s Ball Committee three times, member of the Standing Bear committee and decorating chair for the Standing Bear ground breaking and statue dedication. The Opportunity Center has always been an organization that has been dear to her heart, as she worked with the Kay County Council and the Opportunity Center boards. In her Conoco days, she served on The United Way Board as Chair and later served on the allocations committee.
In her spare time, Janet enjoys golf, beaches and the ocean, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Janet’s daughter Wendy lives here in Ponca City, and is Director of the Red Cross and her husband Steven Stobbe of Stobbe Design and their two children, Samantha 9, and Ethan 7.
